WOODBURN - Brie and Kacie Melton combined to strike out 10 batters and a throw a five-inning no-hitter as the Crescent Valley High softball team defeated Woodburn 9-0 in a Mid-Willamette Conference game Tuesday.

The Raiders (7-8, 6-4) supported them with error-free defense. The game was called after five innings because Woodburn (2-8) ran out of players. A girl was injured and the team had no one left on the bench.

Crescent Valley blew the game open in the fourth inning when Brie Melton hit a three-run homer. She ended the game with three RBIs.

Brie Melton pitched the first four innings and ran her record to 3-0. Tasha Vanelli had three hits and Dani Hultberg drove in two runs.

The Raiders play Woodburn again at 4:30 p.m. today at home.

Crescent Valley High jumped all over Woodburn in a Mid-Willamette Conference home baseball game with 13 runs in the first inning and 10 more in the fifth to win 30-8.

Thomas McCarthy threw five strong innings for the Raiders (4-11, 3-7), went 5-for-7 at the plate and drove in four runs. Colin Campi had five RBIs.

Crescent Valley plays Woodburn again at 4:30 p.m. today on the road.
