CV girls defeat Dallas, force playoff

DALLAS - Crescent Valley built a 10-point halftime lead and kept Dallas at bay the rest of the way on Wednesday night to take a 47-37 victory in a Mid-Willamette Conference girls basketball game.

The Raiders moved into a tie for fourth place with Dallas with identical 8-6 league records, setting up a playoff game between the teams at 7 p.m. Saturday at West Albany for the MWC's final berth in the 5A state sub-playoffs.

Molly Doran had 14 points, Hannah Doran 12 points and Sammi Waite 11 points for CV.

ALBANY - McKenzie Redberg hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 27 seconds left in overtime. It was her only basket of the game.

The Spartans (20-3, 13-1) will take the first seed into the 5A state playoffs and will play at home on Feb. 28. West Albany (14-9, 10-4) is the third seed. Silverton, which beat Lebanon on Wednesday, is the second seed.

West Albany's Kara Hartman sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation. Jacyln Silsby led all scorers with 17 for West Albany. Gabe Johnson and Syree Gerner each had nine for the Spartans. Karly Laney scored six points and had 16 rebounds for the Spartans.

The contest was a Mountain West League play-in game. The Wolverines (12-5) go on the road for the seeding game for the state tournament at 5:30 p.m. today at McKenzie.

Spencer Huddleston scored 20 points to lead Corvallis to a Mid-Willamette Conference home win over West Albany. It was the fifth straight victory for the Spartans.

"We kept our poise and composure down the stretch to beat a very athletic team," CHS (14-8, 8-4) coach Greg Garrison said. "It was a good win."
