Former Corvallis High standout Evan Hilberg is 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA in four starts for the Linfield baseball team, which is off to a 13-3 overall start and is 10-2 in the Northwest Conference.
Hilberg, a sophomore, is second on the team with 211/3 innings pitched and has struck out 16 and walked six while allowing 16 hits.
Eric Evenson, also a CHS grad, is hitting .396 and has started 15 games for the Wildcats, who are coached by former Linfield and major league baseball player Scott Brosious.
Evenson, a sophomore, has 21 hits and has driven in nine runs for Linfield. He has scored a team-best 26 runs.
CHS grad Steve Arnst, a junior, has started two games and has four hits, including a homer, in 21 at-bats.
Tyson Smith, a Dallas grad and Richey's Market player, is batting .426 and has driven in 12 for the Wildcats. He is also 13 of 14 on stolen base attempts. Evenson is 6-for-7.
Crescent Valley grad Thomas McCarthy is off to a quick start at Western Oregon.
The freshman has started eight games and is hitting a team-best .536. He has 15 hits, including four doubles, and has driven in two runs.
CHS grad Billy Clontz has started five games after battling injuries and is hitting .200 for the Wolves, who are 7-6-1.
Sami Keim, a freshman at Linfield and a CHS grad, has started four games and is hitting .273 for the undefeated Wildcats.
Caty Reeves, a sophomore at California Baptist University and a CV grad, is hitting .375 for the Lancers. She has one home run, scored five runs and has driven in seven.
CBU defeated No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene 7-1 and 6-1 to move into first in the Golden State Athletic Conference. The Lancers were ranked third going into the doubleheader.
