Casey second at Ivy games

Cornell University junior Joan Casey finished second in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles last weekend at the Indoor Ivy League Heptagonal Games. Casey jumped 18 feet, 10 3/4 inches and ran the hurdles in 8.83 seconds.

She is a 2004 graduate of Crescent Valley High.

Philomath High graduate Daniel Hinchberger is 1-2 with a 3.85 earned-run average for the baseball team at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. Hinchberger has struck out 23 in 21 innings and walked 21. He is a junior in his first year at Lander, having played two seasons at Chemeketa Community College in Salem.

Abigail Harter has won two straight games and lowered her ERA to 4.71 for Marshall University. A junior from Santiam Christian, she is 4-3 with 30 strikeouts and six walks.

She was a second-team all-Conference USA selection in 2006 for the Herd, when she went 17-9 with a 2.61 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 33 appearances.

Corvallis High graduate Allison Louthan is an all-academic honoree for cross country at NCAA Division III Grinnell College. Grinnell had a team grade-point average of 3.54 and it finished seventh at the NCAA championships last fall.

Crescent Valley graduate Jenny Sibert is a senior on the University of Kentucky softball team. She's hitless in five games for the 7-3 Wildcats. She played four games in 2006 before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery and receiving a medical redshirt.

She was on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2006.

Philomath High graduate Jenneca Crocker, a freshman guard for the Northwest Christian College women's basketball team, has played in 23 games. She had nine points, six rebounds and six steals off the bench in Northwest Christian's last game, an 86-45 win over Walla Walla College on Feb. 17.

Crocker will travel with the team to Broken Arrow, Okla., for the USCAA National Championship Tournament next week. The Beacons (15-9) are seeded fourth; they placed fourth last season.

NCC will join the NAIA next season and play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Bethany Howard, also a 2006 PHS grad, has played in 14 games for the third-year program.

Santa Clara sophomore Elizabeth Doran is averaging 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds in 14 games for the Broncos' women's basketball team, which played Loyola Marymount on Thursday night in Portland in the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament. She is a 2005 CV graduate.
