PHILOMATH - Brittney Crocker scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds on Thursday night to lead the Philomath High girls to a 37-31 nonleague basketball victory over Yamhill-Carlton at PHS.

"We saw a whole lot of improvement," PHS coach Amy Leonard said. "We were able to get everybody in the game, and that's always a good thing."

The Warriors (3-3) play host to Marist tonight.

MONROE - The Dragons could overcome the strong defense of the top-ranked team in 3A in the nonconference loss at home.

Willamina took an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and led 16-3 at the half.

Monroe (2-5) is at East Linn Christian on Saturday.

Swimming

TUALATIN - The Crescent Valley boys and girls swim teams stepped up in competition and came away with a split.

The CV girls knocked off 6A Southridge 155-131 and lost to Tualatin 170-106.

The girls lost several relays by a narrow margin that could have made the meet closer against last year's state runnerup.

The CV boys also knocked off Southridge, 145-134, and fell to Tualatin 165-120.

MONROE - Kyle Guldager scored 19 points for Monroe in a 63-31 boys basketball loss to Willamina.

The Dragons (1-6) play at East Linn Christian on Saturday.
