ALBANY - Dominic Wooten rushed for three touchdowns to help lead the Corvallis High football team back to the playoffs on Friday night.

The Spartans overcame a 13-10 halftime deficit with Wooten scoring twice in the second half to knock off South Albany 30-13.

The victory gives CHS (4-6, 4-3) fourth place in the Mid-Willamette Conference and the final playoff berth from the conference.

The Spartans travel to The Dalles-Wahtonka next week.

CHS established its ground game early. The Spartans took a 10-0 lead on two 11-play scoring drives while the Rebels amassed just six plays on offense in the first quarter.

Fullback Lane Stutzman, who replaced younger brother Bryce due to a lingering knee injury, took over the ball carrying duties in the South Albany backfield and led two touchdown drives to help the Rebels take a 13-10 lead into the half.

The senior filled in admirably in his final high school game, rushing for 136 yards on 28 carries.

But CHS combated Stutzman's effort with its own workhorse as Wooten took the ball 29 times for 257 of the Spartans' 302 yards rushing.

"I thought they played real physical game. Obviously, when you have a guy like Wooten ... and you've got one of those guys you can go to all the time, you are always going to be in the game," South Albany coach Tony Matta after the game.

"In the second half we were playing hard but we were thin in bodies and I was worried about guys getting dinged up out there."

After a 13-point second quarter, the Rebels were shut out the rest of the way.

Following quarterback Ross Orman's 1-yard quarterback sneak into the end zone, South Albany fumbled the ensuing kickoff before Wooten put the game away with his third scoring run of the night.
