EUGENE - Tayler Ficek scored three goals to help North Eugene High knock off Philomath in a nonleague girls soccer game on Tuesday.

Ficek scored twice in a two-minute span of the first half to put the 5A Highlanders up on the 4A Warriors en route to the 4-2 win.

But Joceline Howard scored on a penalty kick in the 38th minute to make it 2-1 at the half.

Philomath (0-1) tied the game when Sierra Grunwald scored off an assist from Joy deVos in the 59th minute.

But Allison Frost scored with 10 minutes to play and Ficek scored a minute later to put the game out of reach.

"It was a good first outing," PHS coach John Williams said. "We gave up four goals to a quality team but we scored two goals against a quality team. We didn't pack it in after being down 2-0 and that's really cool. I'm proud of the fact we didn't give up."

Williams said the Warriors were tired after getting the game even. He also said they had a hard time adjusting to the turf.

The Warriors return to action at Yamhill-Carlton on Saturday.
