INDEPENDENCE - Grant Hedrick accounted for 401 yards of total offense as he rallied top-ranked Central to a 48-12 victory over Philomath on Friday in a Val-Co League game.

Philomath (6-4, 2-2) led 12-6 early in the second quarter after Namer Fakhoury dashed 69 yards for a TD.

"We came out and our defensive game plan was great," PHS coach Troy Muir said. "We made them work in the first half and we controlled the ball for most of that time."

The X-factor was Hedrick, who threw the second of his four TD passes with 26 seconds left in the half to give Central (10-0, 4-0) a 21-12 advantage.

Hedrick finished with 176 yards rushing and 225 passing, while Casey Conner gained 126 yards rushing and scored twice.

"It's hard to keep a great team - not just a good team, a great team - down," Muir said. "They made some adjustments (at halftime)-. They're the No. 1 team in the state, and we still did some good things in execution."

Keith Fakhoury rushed for 103 yards on 23 carries, while Namer Fakhoury had 71 on four carries.

Philomath advances to a first-round 4A playoff game next weekend. It is the Warriors first playoff appearance in five years.
