EUGENE — West Albany's comeback attempt fell just short with a 61-56 boys basketball loss to Sheldon in the Shamrock Slam tournament.
The Bulldogs (2-3) trailed 31-21 at halftime after some cold shooting.
"We had some really good looks, we just didn't execute in the second quarter," WAHS coach Derek Duman said.
Despite the deficit, the Bulldogs nearly overtook the Irish in the fourth.
"We got it back to two but just never really got over the hump," Duman said.
The Bulldogs will take on North Medford in the tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Santiam Christian 72, Salem Academy 61
DAYTON — Santiam Christian defeated Salem Academy in the Dayton tournament.
The Eagles were led by Zach Baugher with 24 points. Grant Carly added 17 points and Josh Baugher had 15.
Salem Academy was paced by Benett Bos with 22 points. Hayden Wakefield chipped in 14 points and Luke Miller 12.
The Eagles will take on Kennedy at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the tourney.
Cadcade 57, Sweet Home 41
TURNER — Host Cascade topped the Huskies in the nonleague game at CHS. The Huskies (2-4) play at Siislaw on Monday in their next start.
Central Linn 66, Culver 44
CULVER — The Cobras won their first game of the season by topping Culver in a nonleague game. The Cobras 91-4) play at Pleasant Hill on Monday in their next start.
East Linn Christian 62, Bonanza 33
BONANZA — The Eagles pulled away for the nonconference road win. ELCA (3-3) plays at Lost River on Saturday.
Amity 81, Scio 35
AMITY —The Loggers dropped to 1-5 by falling to Amity at the Amity Warrior Classic. Scio resumes play in the tournament on Saturday.
Willamina 59, Harrisburg 51
WILLAMINA — Willamina topped Harrisburg in the nonleague game at WHS. The Eagles (2-6) play at Junction City on Tuesday.
REDMOND — South Albany High stretched its winning streak to two games in a row with a 47-28 win over Redmond in a nonleague game at RHS.
Katie Mayhue had 20 points and Morgan Maynard eight to lead the Rebels. South Albany led 23-13 at halftime and kept the Panthers at arm's length in the second half.
"We came out and played aggressively," South coach Trever Ball said. "We took the intensity to them, and we made some adjustments on their big girl (Ava Kitchin) that really paid dividends."
The Rebels (3-4) host Pendleton on Tuesday in their final game before the holiday break.
Central Linn 51, Culver 43 (OT)
CULVER — Central Linn improved to 4-1 with the nonleague win over Culver.
Jessica Neal hit a layup with 15 seconds to go to send it into overtime.
That's when the Cobras took charge and pulled away for the win.
"We got some buckets and got some stops and they had to foul us," Central Linn coach Marcus Campbell said.
The Cobras (4-1) play at Pleasant Hill on Monday.
Willamina 32, Harrisburg 30
WILLAMINA — Harrisburg lost a nonconference heartbreaker on the road.
The Eagles (4-4) play at Junction City on Tuesday.
Bonanza 37, East Linn Christian 27
BONANZA — The Eagles dropped the nonconference road game. ELCA (3-3) plays at Lost River on Saturday.
Amity 55, Scio 29
