GLADSTONE — The Philomath High girls soccer team edged Gladstone 2-1 on Tuesday in an OSAA 4A state playoff game.
It was the second postseason win in four days for the 11th-seeded Warriors (9-5-2). They stretched their winning streak to four games in a row, a span in which they've outscored their opponents 14-3. They blanked Astoria 6-0 on Saturday in the play-in round.
Carrie Lillis scored in the 20th and 60th minutes for the Warriors. Madison Rogers assisted on the second goal.
"It was a very even and tough game," PHS coach Mat Phelps said. "We defended well as a team and combined to generate good chances.
"Carrie and Quincy (Pittman) controlled the middle on the attacking end and found teammates open all night. Everybody stepped up on the defensive side, winning 50/50 balls and playing well out of the back.
"Lena Bacho made some good saves."
Philomath now faces third-seeded Scappoose on Saturday in the quarterfinals. The game will be played at Scappoose, at a time to be determined.
