HARRISBURG — Harrisburg High's Dax Bennett allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out eight, and stole three bases to lead the Eagles baseball team to a 14-5 win over Monroe on Monday in their season opener.

Caleb Prater started the game for Harrisburg and allowed no hits and four runs over three innings, striking out two. Kyle Davis and William Downs had two hits apiece; Davis had a double.

Alex Avery and Kai Garber had RBIs for Monroe.

Harrisburg plays at Taft on Tuesday. Monroe plays at Santiam Christian on Wednesday.

Santiam Christian 11, Blanchet Christian 0

ADAIR VILLAGE — Conrad Carter had six strikeouts in four innings to get the win as the Eagles opened their season with a five-inning victory.

Sam Barton was 2-for-3 with a double and Grant Carley had two runs for SC, which hosts Monroe on Wednesday.


HARRISBURG — Harrisburg opened the 2018 season with a 5-3 nonleague win over Monroe at HHS.

Peyton Greene and Rebecca Ballard were both 1 for 4 at the plate to lead the Dragons.

Harrisburg plays at Taft on Tuesday. Monroe plays at Santiam Christian on Wednesday.

Philomath 9, Sweet Home 3

PHILOMATH — The Warriors topped Sweet Home in the season opener for both teams.

Carrie Lillis and Kamden Combs combined to allow two hits in seven innings for Philomath. Lillis was 2 for 4 at the plate with a third-inning grand slam.

Teammate Hannah Williams also went 2 for 4 for the Warriors, who host Junction City on Wednesday.

Blanchet Catholic 6, Santiam Christian 5

SALEM — SC lost on a walk-off hit to Blanchet Catholic in its opener.

Josie Risinger and Shae Carley each had a double for the Eagles. Katie Boruf recorded a triple.

The Eagles host Monroe at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in their next game.


Santiam Christian junior Zach Baugher was named to 3A basketball all-state first team.

De La Salle North Catholic's Emmanuel Reiley was the player of the year and James Broadous II the coach of the year.
