SALEM — The Corvallis High boys basketball team evened its record at the Capitol City Classic on Wednesday afternoon with a 50-45 victory over Stayton.

Senior point guard Dyshawn Hobson paced the Spartans, who opened tournament play Monday with a 66-50 loss to Skyview (Vancouver, Washington), with 11 points against the Eagles. Eugene Davis added seven points while Maxwell Johnson and Parker Wright tallied six apiece.

The Spartans (3-3) will face Clackamas at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Capitol City Classic. CHS closes tournament play Friday.

Girls basketball

BANDON — The Rogue Valley Adventist Academy topped Alsea 48-25 in the second round of the Bandon Dunes Invitational. The Wolverines (3-3) are now idle until a Dec. 27 game at Falls City.

Philomath 52, Cottage Grove 39

COTTAGE GROVE — Philomath pulled away by outscoring the Lions 27-20 in the second half of the nonleague game.

Reiley Reichhuber led the Warriors (4-4) with 16 points; Haidyn Ecker added 12 and Emma Pankalla had 11.

Philomath is back in action on Thursday against Harrisburg at the Elmira Tournament.
