After a scoreless first half, the Corvallis offense finally started clicking.

Randy Nieves-Bernal had a goal and an assist and Andrew Miller had two assists as the Spartans scored three times in the first nine minutes of the second half to pull away for a 3-0 Mid-Willamette Conference boys soccer win at Spartan Stadium on Tuesday.

Patrick Corrigan scored in the 46th minute off a Miller assist, then Hector Cisneros scored off Nieves-Bernal’s assist in the 48th.

Miller then connected with Nieves-Bernal a minute later for the 3-0 lead.

CHS coach John Callahan credited keeper Luther Ellenson and centerback Travis Callahan for their work in the back.

CHS (3-2-2, 1-0) is at South Albany on Thursday.

The Spartans erupted for five goal in the first half to bury the visitors early in the MWC opener for both schools.

Porter Livingston’s goal in the second minute opened the floodgates. Michael Lanahan and Steven Taylor followed with two goals each for the 5-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Michael Boggess and Caleb Forrest added goals. Boggess had three assists and Alex Elliott had two.

“We came out really strong and followed our game plan and played exactly how we wanted to play to have a great first half,” CV coach Casey Fries said. “In the first half, we wanted to come out and apply pressure and open them up and in the second half, keep possession and look for breakdowns in defending and we did a good job on that as well.”

The Raiders (5-0-2, 1-0) heads to Lebanon on Thursday.

LEBANON — Santiam Christian evened its record in Special District 3 play with the three-goal win over East Linn Christian.

The Eagles held a 2-1 advantage at halftime with goals by Robin Lee and Luis Palacios. Lee added two more goals in the second half for a hat trick and Palacios also scored again.

“They all worked hard and brought a lot of intensity,” SC coach Ron Brooks said. “At times, we didn’t maintain possession so we need to work on maintaining the ball but in general, we’re starting to figure out how to play as a team and looking pretty good.”

SC (3-5, 1-1) plays at home on Friday against Gervais.
