The Corvallis Guitar Society presents "The Segovia Guitar," featuring classical guitarist Tavi Jinariu, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 114 S.W. Eighth St., Corvallis.

Jinariu, from the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania, Romania, will perform some of Andre Segovia's most famous repertoire. The music helped elevate the guitar from a modest folk instrument to one that regularly graces the stage of the world's top concert halls.

Jinariu has won many guitar competitions, and been a featured soloist with various orchestras. He received a full scholarship in 1999 to study under Christopher Parkening, Segovia's most famous American student.

Admission is $18 general. Advance tickets are available online at or at Grass Roots Books and Music, 227 S.W. Second St., Corvallis.

In addition to the solo concert, Jinariu will lead a guitar master class from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Gracewinds Music Lesson Loft, 137 S.W. Third St., Corvallis. Cost is $5. On Tuesday, June 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., Troubadour Music Center, 521 S.W. Second St., will host a free meet-and-greet with Jinariu. It is free.
