Receivers shuffle

True freshman receiver Xavier Hawkins was getting a few more reps at Tuesday’s practice.

Victor Bolden is out, so the Beavers are looking a few more options at receiver in the next week or two.

The latest depth chart has Jordan Villamin starting at split end, with Richard Mullaney at flanker and Hunter Jarmon in the slot.

Mullaney would be backed up by Rahmel Dockery and Hawkins.

Hawkins was getting some looks in fall camp, but the Beavers figured they could redshirt him with Bolden and Dockery in the fold.

“It’s been good and then we kind of slowed it down because we thought Victor and Rahmel were in the front of that thing and then they both go down, bang, bang, in a game and all of a sudden he’s forced into action,” OSU receivers coach Brent Brennan said.

“So we’ll find ways to keep him busy and for him there’s no substitute for playing and being on the road and seeing what it is. I think we can all agree that Victor benefited from that a year ago and that’s why he’s able to play well this year.”
