Philomath High School

In its rankings of the 2020 Best Public High Schools, Niche.com ranked Philomath among its top 50.

Niche.com grades schools in eight areas — academics, culture and diversity, parent/student surveys, teachers, clubs and activities, health and safety, resources and facilities and athletics.

More weight is given to the academic component, which includes state assessment scores and college prep testing such as the ACT and SAT. In fact, academics account for 60 percent of the overall grade.

Philomath ranked No. 32 in the list with an overall grade of “A-minus.” Broken down, the local high school received an A-minus grade for teachers with B-plus grades for academics, college prep and health and safety, a Bk for clubs and activities and a B-minus for diversity.

The No. 1 ranking went to the School of Science & Technology in Beaverton with an A-plus overall grade. The next five schools in the list also had A-plus grades — Lake Oswego, South Eugene, Lakeridge, West Linn and the International School of Beaverton.

Philomath High’s inclusion in these rankings serve as the latest example of the quality, well-rounded education that a student receives on the local campus.

Niche.com compiles information through research of colleges, schools, neighborhoods and companies and provides report cards for the public. It's the second time this year that PHS has been included on such a list.
