PHS boys tennis: Colton Beckstead

Philomath sophomore Colton Beckstead smiles during tennis practice Thursday inside the PHS gymnasium.

Philomath High School's tennis courts committee planned to go to a meeting with the school district and city Friday to discuss the latest status on the effort to bring four courts to town.

Head coach Gary Quandt believes the process is looking very good.

"Hopefully we can get that done late this summer," Quandt said, who can't wait to start practicing and playing on tennis courts that are located in town and maintained by locals. Currently, the Warriors rent courts at Ashbrook Independent School in west Corvallis. "It'll be a very different dynamic if we can get those courts up there."

Quandt had high hopes that the Friday meeting will be positive.

"We have about $225,000 ... so all we need is another $75,000 in grants," Quandt said about the cost of the project.
