Oregon State faces a USC team Saturday in Los Angeles that's chasing an NCAA tournament berth. Here's a look at the Trojans.
USC is 18-9 overall and tied with rival UCLA for second in the Pac-12 at 9-5 after a 72-70 Thursday home win against Oregon.
Sophomore guard Jonah Mathews had 20 points, junior forward Chimezie Metu 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and senior guard Jordan McLaughlin 11 points and 11 assists.
In the game, the Trojans lost junior forward Bennie Boatwright (averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds) to a season-ending knee injury.
Metu leads the team at 15.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. McLaughlin averages 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 7.6 assists.
USC averages 78.9 points (fourth in the Pac-12) and allows 72.0 (sixth) overall, and in conference games scores 76.5 (fifth) and gives up 71.1 (sixth).
The Trojans shoot 46.6 percent overall (fifth), 38.1 on 3-pointers (second) and 72.2 percent at the free-throw line (sixth) for the season. In Pac-12 games, those numbers are 46.4 (tied for third), 35.4 (eighth) and 71.5 (seventh).
USC is first in assists (17.0) and turnover margin (plus-4.9) and third in steals (7.0) in conference games. McLaughlin is first in assists (7.4) and asisst-to-turnover ratio (3.3) and fifth in steals (1.7). Sophomore forward Nick Rakocevic is first in field goal percentage (66.3).
The Trojans won 74-67 in Corvallis on Jan. 20. Senior guard Elijah Stewart and 18 points and freshman wing Jordan Usher 14. Both had four 3-pointers as USC shot 10 of 23 from beyond the arc.
Tres Tinkle had 21 points and Stevie Thompson 16 for the Beavers.
It was the Trojans' fourth straight win in the series after OSU had won nine of the previous 13. USC leads the all-time series 72-64.
