What is the role of an agent in today’s changing publishing climate, and how does a writer go about finding one? What does a healthy author/agent relationship look like? Come hear from our expert, Chip MacGregor, who has been a successful literary agent for almost 20 years. MacGregor is also an author and understands the Catch 22 an author faces: “Publishers won’t talk to me unless I have an agent but agents won’t talk to me until I’m published!” Bring your questions and begin to create a realistic plan for finding and working with a literary agent who is a good fit for you, and figure out what “success” means to your writing career.
Chip MacGregor is the president of MacGregor Literary, Inc. He has been working in the publishing industry for more than three decades, made his living as a freelance writer and editor for several years, and was formerly a publisher with Time-Warner Book Group. MacGregor began working as an agent twenty years ago, has represented nearly a thousand titles, and the authors he represents have been on every major bestseller list. He has an undergraduate from Portland State University, a master’s from Biola University, did his doctoral work at the University of Oregon with post-doc work at Oxford University. A well-known speaker at writing conferences and via online writing sites, MacGregor lives on the Oregon coast.
Willamette Writer on the River is the Corvallis Chapter of Willamette Writers. This event is free to members and full-time students. Guests of members pay $5; visitors pay $10, no one is turned away.
