The Philomath School Board plans to meet Thursday evening to make a key decision in the process to find an interim successor to outgoing superintendent Melissa Goff.
Directly following a budget committee meeting, the board will go into executive session "for the purpose of selecting a new chief executive officer," according to the public notice released by the school district. Following the behind closed doors discussion, the board will then move into a special session, which is open to the public.
The budget committee meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., and the board's executive session is estimated to occur at around 7:15.
Based on previous discussions, it appears the board can do one of three things — hire an internal candidate for the interim superintendent position, choose a consultant to help make an external interim hire or announce that the search will continue for an interim candidate but that the board would handle the search itself based on higher-than-anticipated costs.
The board previously announced that it will focus on the hiring of an interim superintendent with the intent of that person joining the district before Goff leaves at the end of June for the superintendency of the Greater Albany Public Schools District.
The board had one unnamed internal candidate that had come forward and planned to send out a mass email to school district staff to see if any others had an interest in trying for the position.
