Philomath High School students made a little history this past academic year with an unforeseen level of success on the Advanced Placement calculus test.
According to math teacher Jodi Moade, nine PHS students took the test and all of them scored either a 4 or a 5 — out of a possible 5. With those results, the students receive full college credits for both calculus sections.

“That’s never happened before,” Moade said. “We’ve had 100 percent pass rate twice, but it always included a couple of 3s. I’m so proud of this group.”
To put the accomplishment in perspective, only 41 percent statewide and 38 percent worldwide scored a 4 or 5 on the test. Four of the nine Philomath students had a perfect 5.
