CORVALLIS — A 50-year-old Philomath man was arraigned in Benton County Circuit Court on Monday on a felony charge of attempted first-degree assault and a misdemeanor count of menacing.
Vicente Soltero is accused of threatening his ex-wife’s new husband with a knife and lunging at him with a knife in his hand.
Soltero pleaded not guilty to both charges in court on Monday.
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Feb. 13 at Mexico Lindo Restaurant, 5228 SW Philomath Blvd. in Corvallis.
Soltero was arrested at the restaurant by Corvallis police and taken to the Benton County Jail. He was released on bail the same day.
According to the police report, the alleged victim said he was fixing a fan at the restaurant for his wife, the restaurant’s part-owner, when Soltero came in and began arguing with him. The man told police Soltero threatened him with a bottle and then picked up a knife, which he used first to threaten and then to attack him.
Senior Judge David Connell set a status check in the case for April 4.
Soltero is represented by defense attorney John C. Rich.
Deputy Benton County District Attorney Kareem Walcott is representing the state.
