Police Log

Editor’s note: This log includes incidents in which there might have been a public disturbance or risk to the public. Information comes from the Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19

DUII (DRUGS): A Benton County sheriff deputy responded at 11:20 a.m. to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Mustang Lane. Gilbert John Hearn, 56, of Newport, was traveling west when he allegedly crashed into one vehicle, which caused that vehicle to crash into a third vehicle. Hearn was transported to the hospital for unspecified injuries, and was later cited on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants (drugs), reckless driving and six counts of reckless endangerment.

SATURDAY, JUNE 22

THEFT: A Benton County sheriff deputy took a report from a Philomath-area resident who said that his son fraudulently used his credit card information to make two online transactions that charged a total of $79.99.

SUNDAY, JUNE 23

RUNAWAY JUVENILE: Philomath police took a report of a 15-year-old girl whose family had not seen her in two days.

VEHICLE CRASH: Philomath police responded at 2:07 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on the 1900 block of Main Street. No one was injured.

MONDAY, JUNE 24

WARRANT: Philomath police came into contact with Donald Lee Resue, 25, on the 100 block of South 14th Street. The officer cited and released Resue, who has no fixed address, on a warrant for failing to appear in court. Two days later, Corvallis police arrested, booked and released Resue two additional times — once on charges of interfering with an officer and resisting arrest and another time on a charge of offensive littering.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26

POLICE CHASE: Philomath police began pursuing a motorist on a high-speed chase starting at 2:22 a.m. west of town on Highway 20 that continued into Lincoln County. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Eddy Lee Brown, 49, of Newport, outside of Seal Rock on charges of attempting to elude police, reckless driving and six counts of reckless endangering. Additional charges — three counts of first-degree theft and one count each of automobile theft, first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief — were added in connection with what the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office described as a “crime spree” from earlier this year.
