FRIDAY, FEB. 22

TWO-VEHICLE CRASH: Philomath police responded at 11:13 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash at Main Street and 26th Street. No one was injured, and both vehicles were towed due to damage.

SATURDAY, FEB. 23

TRESPASSING: Philomath police responded at 8:35 p.m. to the Chevron gas station and warned a woman that if she returned, she would be issued a criminal citation for trespassing. The woman had been reportedly loitering on the premises without buying anything and had been verbally abusive to employees.

SUNDAY, FEB. 24

WARRANT: Philomath police responded at 6:39 p.m. to the 300 block of North 14th Street for a report of a disturbance. Officers arrested Travis Robert Violette, 42, of Philomath, and housed him in the Benton County Jail until he could be extradited to California on a warrant.

METH: Philomath police spotted and arrested Shawn Evan Newport, 51, of Summit, at 6:02 p.m. near the intersection of Eighth Street and Main Street. Newport was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a methamphetamine possession charge, as well as an additional drug charge after police reportedly found him to be in possession of a meth pipe.

VANDALISM: Someone knocked over a row of mailboxes and a Pioneer telephone box at the corner of Noon Road and Highway 20 sometime between Feb. 23-24.

VANDALISM: A woman reported to Philomath police that about 8:30 p.m. the previous evening an older sounding car drove up the driveway on Joseph Lane, turned around, drove into a gate, then left the area.

TUESDAY, FEB. 26

THEFT: A metal piece of art in the shape of the scarecrow from “The Wizard of Oz” was stolen from a yard on the 1900 block of North 19th Street.

WARRANT: Philomath police arrested Ronald A. Mowdy, 25, of Newport, on a Benton County Circuit Court warrant. The arrest took place at 7:47 p.m. on the 1700 block of Main Street.

DRUGS: Philomath police responded at 9:43 p.m. to the area of the 1900 block of Applegate Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The responding officer spoke to the three occupants of the vehicle and arrested 22-year-old Janelle Dennise Brand of Albany and 30-year-old Jeremy Lee Schwarz, no town of residence listed. Brand was booked and jailed on charges of possession of heroin and methamphetamine, as well as failure to return a suspended driver’s license. Philomath police cited and released Schwarz in the field on drug possession charges. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office had arrested Schwarz three days prior on Feb. 23 on drug charges, and the Corvallis Police Department arrested him two days later on Feb. 28 on charges of intoxicated driving, hit-and-run, and drug possession after he allegedly crashed into a building at 220 NW Second St. in Corvallis.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27

UNWELCOME GUEST: Philomath police responded at 8:26 a.m. for a report of three dogs running at large, one of which had discovered how to open the front door of a residence on the 2800 block of Applegate Street.

THURSDAY, FEB. 28

BIKE THEFT: A red Trek mountain bike, valued at $500, was reportedly stolen from property on the 2500 block of Green Street.

WARRANT: Philomath police arrested Christopher Lee Fain, 25, of Philomath, on a local municipal court warrant for failing to comply with court orders on an original charge of assault. Police made contact with Fain at 10:35 a.m. on the 100 block of North 14th Street.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

DISTURBANCE: Philomath police responded at 2:30 a.m. to the 400 block of South 13th Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon investigation, police arrested Robert Dustin Schaffner, 29, of Philomath, on a charge of second-degree disorderly conduct.
