Information comes from the Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, MARCH 15

VANDALISM: Philomath police responded at 10:36 p.m. to the Meet'n Place Tavern for a report of vandalism. Upon investigation, the officer arrested Jason Wayne Evans, 29, of Philomath, on two counts of second-degree mischief for allegedly using a permanent marker to draw on a vehicle and a wall at the tavern.

DUII: A Benton County sheriff deputy arrested Dylan Mendell, 21, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants following a traffic stop at 10:45 p.m. on Fern Road near Grange Hall Road. Mendell's blood alcohol content measured 0.0 percent but a drug recognition expert responded and determined Mendell was under the influence of drugs.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16

CIVIL ISSUE: Philomath police responded at 7:02 p.m. to the 2300 block of Green Street for a complaint, and determined that the dispute in question was civil in nature, not criminal.

PUBLIC ASSIST: Benton County sheriff deputies, with the help of the Benton County Search and Rescue coordinator, responded to Marys Peak Road, near milepost 5, for a report of several cars stuck in snow. The reporting party, who called at 8:45 p.m., indicated that some of the people had left on foot, and that nobody had contact with them and they were not dressed for the conditions. All subjects were located and taken home.

MONDAY, MARCH 18

ROLL-OVER CRASH: A motorist traveling west on Highway 34, about 4 miles outside Philomath, lost control of the vehicle after having a medical issue. Benton County sheriff deputies responded at 8 a.m. to find that the vehicle had crashed into a fence on the north side of the highway and rolled. The driver was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

THEFT OF SERVICES: Philomath police responded at noon to the Galaxie Motel for a report of someone who left without paying.

ASSAULT: Philomath police responded at 3:40 p.m. to the 300 block of North Ninth Street for a report of a domestic assault in progress. The reporting party said her grandfather was hitting her father on the head with a cane and then threatened to hit his wife with it. The officer arrested John Eugene Boatwright, 85, of Philomath, on a charge of second-degree domestic assault.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: Philomath police responded at 4:49 a.m. to the 2000 block of Applegate Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police were unable to spot the vehicle, however, since it left immediately after dispatch informed police of the issue.

WELFARE CHECK: Philomath police responded at 7:24 p.m. to the 500 block of Main Street to check the welfare of a heavily intoxicated man. The man agreed to "move along" and declined medical assistance.

WELFARE CHECK: A Philomath police officer responded to a request for a welfare check on the 100 block of North Seventh Street at 9:24 p.m., but he was unable to locate the subject.

TUESDAY, MARCH 19

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: Philomath police discovered a suspicious vehicle at 10:44 p.m. that was parked near the intersection of Pioneer Street and Coastal View Drive. The vehicle had significant and fresh damage to the rear driver's side, the dome light was on and the vehicle was unoccupied. No further information was provided.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

TRESPASSING: Philomath police responded at 1:28 a.m. to the 700 block of Main Street for a trespass complaint. The officer told a man, who had been sleeping in his semi, that he was parked in a private truck lot and had to leave. The man left without incident.

WARRANT: Philomath police arrested Bobby Wade Loftis, 44, of Philomath, on a warrant following a traffic stop at 12:18 p.m. on the 200 block of South 13th Street. After Loftis was taken into custody, the officer located a jar of methamphetamine and a meth pipe near Loftis' vehicle. He was additionally charged with drug possession.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

TRAFFIC CRASH: Philomath police cited a motorist for taking a dangerous left turn following a two-vehicle crash around 7:48 p.m. at 19th Street and Main Street.
