Police Log

Editor’s note: This log includes incidents in which there might have been a public disturbance or risk to the public. Information comes from the Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.


WARRANTS/DRUGS: A Benton County sheriff deputy contacted three subjects in a vehicle at 2:45 a.m. at the Hubert K. McBee Memorial Campground outside Alsea, and a Philomath police officer was called to assist at 2:56 a.m. William Duckworth, 43, of Creswell, was cited and released on charges of possession of heroin and methamphetamine. One of his passengers, 30-year-old Justin Truman, allegedly attempted to run and was bitten by a Linn County Sheriff’s Office patrol K-9 who followed his trail. Truman and the other passenger, 24-year-old Shelby Baker, were both arrested on felony warrants and for possession of heroin and methamphetamine. Their cities of residence were not provided.

FAILURE TO CARRY LICENSE: A Benton County sheriff deputy pulled over 32-year-old Dennis Becker, of Corvallis, at Applegate Street and 10th Street at 12:20 p.m. for not having functioning brake lights. Becker was subsequently cited for failure to carry and present a driver’s license and for operating a vehicle without required lighting.


STOLEN ATV: A Benton County sheriff deputy took a report of a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle being stolen from a barn on the 38000 block of Kings Valley Highway. The 2018 Kawasaki Mule, valued at $8,000, was taken sometime between April 28 and May 2.


TRAFFIC CRASH: No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:36 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and 24th Street.

DUII: The Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Philomath Police Department responded at 10:10 p.m. to a crash at 24975 Grange Hall Road. Deputies investigated the crash and booked Devin Michael Gassner-Hirst, 22, on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree disorderly conduct. His city of residence was not provided.

BURGLARY: Someone pried open the locked door to an RV trailer on the 24000 block of Old Peak Road sometime between April 30 and May 1. The owner told the Benton County Sheriff’s Office that she didn’t know yet if anything was taken, but she estimated the cost to replace the door and lock to be at $400.

WARRANT: Philomath police arrested Dawson Taylor DeWolfe, 20, of Springfield, on a warrant after he walked away from a vehicle that an officer had just pulled over. The traffic stop occurred at 2:33 p.m. near Mount Union Avenue and Benton View Drive.


DUII: The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 7:20 p.m. to the 17000 block of Highway 34 near Alsea for a report of an assault and trespassing. Dillon William Tuyls, 27, of Alsea, was subsequently arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless endangering, reckless driving, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespassing, fourth-degree assault and hit-and-run (property damage).


TRESPASSING: Philomath police responded at 1:47 a.m. to the 2500 block of Newton Street for a report of a burglary that had happened earlier. Upon investigation, the officer cited Andrea R. Dorman, 33, of Corvallis, on a charge of second-degree criminal trespassing.


DISTURBANCE: Philomath police responded at 2:58 a.m. for a report of a disturbance on the 1400 block of Applegate Street. Rachael Lyn Fagan, 28, of Scio, was arrested and booked on charges of disorderly conduct, harassment, resisting arrest, interfering with police and attempting to escape.


DUII: Philomath police arrested Jordan Mallory, 27, of Eugene, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants following a traffic stop at 12:58 a.m. on the 1100 block of Main Street.

FALSE ALARM: Philomath police responded at 3:45 a.m. to the Vinwood Taphouse for an activated intrusion alarm. The owner opened the front door, and the officer checked the building and determined it was clear. The alarm went off due to an interior door not being properly secured.

DUII: Philomath police arrested Bethany Hope Stokes, 23, of Eugene, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants following a traffic stop at 10:28 p.m. on Fern Road near Aurora Lane.

WARRANT: Philomath police spoke to two transient people at 8:25 p.m. on the 1300 block of Main Street, and subsequently arrested one of them, 42-year-old Kristina Kay Haff of Corvallis, on several warrants.


THEFT: Someone removed the padlocks off of the Boy Scouts’ empty can drop on the 2600 block of Main Street and stole several bags of cans. The theft occurred sometime the evening of May 7.


SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Philomath police took a burglary report regarding a residence on the 500 block of Canberra Drive. The item that the caller was missing was later found at the residence, and police determined that no crime had been committed.


THEFT: Philomath police took a report of a hearing aid being stolen on the 100 block of South 20th Street.
