Police Log

Information comes from the Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. MONDAY, SEPT. 16

WARRANT: A Benton County sheriff deputy contacted John Caldwell, 26, of Philomath, at 10:30 p.m. at a residence on the 24000 block of Gellatly Way, then issued him a criminal citation for a Benton County Circuit Court warrant.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18

PICKUP VS. DEER: A Benton County sheriff deputy responded to a single-vehicle crash at 9:40 p.m. on Highway 34, about 3 miles west of Alsea. The motorist was uninjured after crashing a pickup into a deer. The pickup crossed the oncoming lane of travel and ended up upside down in the ditch.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 20

WARRANT/METH: A Benton County sheriff deputy arrested Peter Schragl, 45, after pulling him over at 1:20 a.m. on Highway 20 about 4 miles west of Blodgett. Schragl, whose city of residence was not listed, was arrested on a U.S. Marshal Service warrant for failing to register as a sex offender, as well as a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21

WARRANT: Philomath police cited and released Luke Walter Jans, 35, of Philomath, at 1:07 p.m. on the 2400 block of Newton Street on a warrant for failing to appear in court. Jans was then booked and jailed less than a week later, on Sept. 27, for failing to appear in court on various charges and allegedly violating his parole.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 22

MENACING: Philomath police cited and released John Daniel Tillis, 58, of Philomath, on the 3100 block of Main Street for a charge of menacing (intimidation).

METH: Philomath police cited and released Edgar Neil Smith, 63, of Philomath, on the 1400 block of Main Street on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

MONDAY, SEPT. 23

DUII: Philomath police cited and released John W. Huestis, 53, of Philomath, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The interaction took place on the 800 block of North 12th Street.

WARRANT: Philomath police cited and released Lonnie Alan Grover, 40, of Newport, at 3:55 p.m. at the Philomath Police Department on a warrant for failing to appear in court.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 24

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: Philomath police investigated an instance of suspicious circumstances at 8:38 a.m. on the 500 block of McCall Way. No further information was provided.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25

TRESPASS: Philomath police investigated a trespass complaint at 3:47 p.m. on the 1000 block of Summerton Way.
