Philomath will get into the Christmas spirit this coming Monday evening with the 12th annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony on the lawn of the Benton County Historical Museum.
Hot chocolate and cookies, holiday music, Santa Claus and counting down the seconds to the lighting of tree highlight the community event, which is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.
The Philomath Area Chamber of Commerce serves as host for the tree-lighting ceremony. Those in attendance can take the chill of the evening off with hot cocoa and cookies provided by the neighboring College United Methodist Church and Eats & Treats Cafe.
Santa Claus, played by Rick Wells, plans to arrive with the help of Philomath Fire & Rescue with an escort by the Philomath Police Department. He’ll be accompanied by Philomath Frolic & Rodeo queen Rylee Henderer.
The Philomath Elementary School choir will perform in addition to Mid-Valley DJ. The Corvallis Knights baseball team's Mack the Knight and Lil' King will also make an appearance.
Besides the museum and the chamber, Oregon State Credit Union and the Corvallis Knights are donating candy canes, Philomath Rental is providing lighting, and Shonnard’s Nursery and Pacific Power put the Christmas lights on the tree, a noble fir planted in 2008.
The schedule shows the countdown to the lighting to occur at 7 p.m.
