PHS softball: Kylee Galvan

Philomath's Kylee Galvan had three hits Tuesday at Woodburn.

It wasn’t going to matter where the game was played.

After Tuesday’s softball game was moved to Woodburn, the Philomath High School softball team took the change of venue in stride to the tune of 18-1 to remain tied for first place in the Oregon West Conference standings.

Philomath (8-6 overall, 5-1 Oregon West) scored five runs in the top of the first to set the tone of how this one was going to turn out. But it was no great surprise with the Warriors among the upper echelon of Class 4A while Woodburn has been struggling through a winless season.

Philomath pounded out 18 hits in the victory. Kamden Combs and Kylee Galvan both went 3 for 4 while Hannah Williams, Amie Russell and Lara Hunter each had two hits.

Leading 8-1 going into the fourth inning, the Warriors pulled away even further with seven runs going up on the board. The game was stopped after five innings on the 10-run mercy rule.

Woodburn falls to 0-11 overall, 0-6 in league play.

Philomath is scheduled to play Wednesday at Stayton.
