PHS volleyball: Sage Kramer

PHS sophomore Sage Kramer had 17 kills in tournament action Saturday at Barlow High.

The Philomath High volleyball team lost three of four matches at a round-robin tournament Saturday at Barlow High School.

Competing in the Mt. Hood Invitational, Philomath posted a win over 6A Gresham, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11 and lost matches to 5A Ridgeview, 25-21, 25-7, 6A Clackamas, 25-12, 25-22 and 6A Barlow, the host school, 25-17, 25-16.

“The girls were struggling with distractions about their homecoming dance but we really treated yesterday like practice getting ready for our Monday match,” PHS coach Denee Newton said on Sunday. “We are still really working on transition and our serve receive is taking a hit because of it.”

Sophomore Sage Kramer and freshman Abigail Brown were attack leaders in the weekend tournament with 17 and 15 kills, respectively.

Philomath (10-8 overall, 5-2 Oregon West) will play Monday at Sweet Home (14-1, 7-0). The varsity match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
