PHS softball: Hannah Williams

Hannah Williams had three hits, including a home run, in Philomath's 12-7 win over Lebanon Friday afternoon.

The Philomath High School softball team notched its first win of the season Friday afternoon with a 12-7 victory over Class 5A Lebanon.

The two ballclubs battled back and forth all afternoon and was tied 4-4 going into the sixth inning. Philomath broke through for four runs but then gave up three in the bottom half while clinging to an 8-7 advantage.

In the seventh, Philomath scored four more runs to pull away for good.

Hannah Williams had a big day by going 3 for 3 with three runs, two RBIs and a home run. Amie Russell was another big bat with a 4-for-4 effort that included two runs, three RBIs and a double. Kylee Galvan was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and also hit a double. Riley Weaver hit a double as well.

In all, Philomath pounded out 14 hits and put another six on the bases through walks.

Kamden Combs started at pitcher and ended up with the win. She went five innings and allowed six hits, four earned runs and one walk with five strikeouts. Kylie Barnes finished up the last two innings and allowed four hits and no earned runs.

After playing three straight 5A opponents, the Warriors will finally get into 4A play Monday with a home game against Stayton for their Oregon West Conference opener.
