The Philomath High School dominated its opponent Saturday afternoon on the road to advance to the Class 4A state tournament at Forest Grove.
The Warriors defeated Corbett in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16, to move past the first round of the state playoffs. Philomath (15-10) now prepares for another rematch against Sisters, the Oregon West Conference champion that barely defeated the Warriors on its home court in five sets back in mid-October.
No. 10-seeded Philomath and No. 2-seeded Sisters (24-3) will play at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Grove High School. If the Warriors win, they would face the winner of No. 6 Hidden Valley and No. 3 Sweet Home. A loss would send Philomath in a consolation match against the loser of that Hornets-Huskies matchup.
The other side of the bracket includes No. 9 Banks vs. No. 1 Valley Catholic and No. 12 North Marion against No. 4 Junction City.
In the win at Corbett, the Warriors attacked with senior Joelle Berger (nine kills), sophomore Sage Kramer (eight kills) and senior Emma Pankalla (four kills). Freshman Abigail Brown and senior Megan Harper were big at the net with eight and five blocks, respectively. At the service line, senior Ashley Matthews had three aces.
