PHS baseball: Brandn Vogler

Brandn Vogler, seen here earlier this season, threw a complete-game six-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts Monday at Sisters.

The Philomath High School baseball team pounded out 14 hits and got a quality start from pitcher Brandn Vogler in a 10-1 win Monday afternoon at Sisters.

Vogler came up with a solid performance on the mound in a complete-game appearance. In seven innings, he allowed six hits, one run and one walk with nine strikeouts.

Philomath (10-5 overall, 7-2 Oregon West) scored twice in the top of the first. Cameron Ordway and Brooks Stearns opened the game with back-to-back doubles to produce a quick run. Michael Slater then singled to drive in Stearns.

In the third, Stearns was hit by a pitch and scored from first on a single by Slater. The Warriors added another in the fifth when Calvin Snuggerud doubled and scored on a Stearns single.

Philomath really broke the game open in the sixth with four runs. Dylan Bennett and Brody Hiner both had doubles in the inning and scored. Marshall Brattain walked and Adam Hernandez singled with both of those players eventually scoring as well.

In the seventh, Philomath scored two more. Slater, Bennett and Brattain started the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. Brian McClelland drove in Slater with a sac fly and Hernandez drove in Bennett with a single.

Slater finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Stearns was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Both Bennett and Hernandez were 2 for 4. McClelland and Hiner each drove in two runs.

Five of the team’s 14 hits were doubles.

Philomath is scheduled to host Sisters Wednesday at home in the second game of this week’s series.
