The Philomath High School volleyball team regrouped after Friday night’s disappointing loss in the Class 4A state semifinals to defeat Junction City, 3-1, for the third-place trophy.
The Warriors downed the Tigers, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22.
Philomath entered the state playoffs as a No. 10 seed but posted victories over both the No. 2 and No. 4 seeds in an impressive end to the season. The Warriors’ overall record ends up at 17-11.
In the victory over Junction City, the Warriors attacked with its typical hitting balance. Seniors Emma Pankalla and Joelle Berger were in top form with 11 kills apiece and sophomore Sage Kramer finished with 10. Pankalla, Kramer and senior Megan Harper each had three ace blocks. At the service line, Kramer had four aces while Pankalla and Berger each had three.
