The Philomath High School boys soccer team dropped its second straight Oregon West Conference match with a 4-0 loss at Stayton on a cold and wet Thursday evening.

The Eagles, which had been upset at Cascade earlier in the week, are in a first-place tie in the league standings with Woodburn.

“On a wet day on turf, we forgot who we are as a team and didn’t stick to what we were good at,” PHS coach Dave Ellis said. “It was a frustrating night but hopefully we can regroup, refocus and return to form.”

Stayton held a 2-0 lead at halftime.

“After a good start, they caught us out with a cross and finished on the ground in the 18th (minute),” Ellis said. “The second goal came in the 33rd when they latched onto a loose ball.”

Stayton added its third and fourth goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half, Ellis said.

The Warriors drop to 5-4 overall, 4-3 in conference play. Philomath plays Tuesday at home against Sweet Home.
