PHS girls basketball: Braedyn McNeely

Philomath's Braedyn McNeely looks to pass.

In a girls basketball showdown with implications for first place in the Oregon West, Stayton got off to a quick start and ended up winning 46-36 to tie the Warriors for the top spot in the conference.

PHS coach Ben Silva said his team just had an off night while Stayton executed its game plan much better.

Sage Kramer scored a game-high 20 points on seven field goals, including a 3-pointer, and 3 of 4 free throws. Eleven of those 20 came in the fourth quarter.

Senior Marri Martinez scored 17 points, senior Alli Nyquist had 15 and junior KJ Nyquist had 11 for the Eagles (14-4 overall, 6-1 Oregon West), which played the game with only six players seeing action on the floor.

Philomath saw its winning streak end at 11. The Warriors (16-3, 6-1) play at home Friday against Sweet Home.
