Sweet Home had just four hits but pulled out a 3-2 victory Saturday over Philomath in the completion of a baseball game that had started last week but was postponed because of rain.
At the time of the wash-out, Philomath had a 2-0 lead with two on and no outs in the top of the fourth. The Warriors didn’t get any runs in the inning after the contest resumed Saturday and then failed to score the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, the Huskies put together enough offense to come from behind for the victory. Aiden Tyler had an two-run to tie the game in the fourth. In the fifth, Sweet Home took the lead when Zachary Zanona singled and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Zach Luttmer.
Philomath had an opportunity to tie the game in the sixth but came up short. Adam Hernandez and Calvin Snuggerud both singled and Brooks Stearns later reached when he was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases. The inning ended, however, on a force-out.
In the seventh, the Warriors went down 1-2-3 as Sweet Home took two out of three in the series.
Snuggerud, who has been swinging a good bat as of late, finished 2 for 2. Hernandez went 2 for 3.
On the mound, Hernandez started last week and then went back out there at pitcher on Saturday as the game resumed. He ended up with a complete-game, six-inning appearance with four hits and five walks allowed with four strikeouts.
Philomath (9-5 overall, 6-2 Oregon West) is scheduled to play Monday at Sisters, weather permitting. The team would then face Sisters at home Wednesday before wrapping up the series on the road Thursday.
Sweet Home goes to 10-4 overall, 8-1 in the conference.
