The Modern Dance Technique company dancers (pictured in 2016) will return to perform at "Terpsichore: A Community Dance Concert" Saturday at the Majestic Theatre.

The "Terpsichore" community dance concert began as a fundraiser to purchase a new Marley dance floor for the Majestic Theatre.

But dancers and the concert's organizers thought the event was so fun they decided to keep it going as an annual celebration of the community's variety of dance groups.

The fundraiser, entering its fourth year, returns Saturday to the Majestic Theatre with two concerts that will feature more than 100 mid-valley and regional dancers of all ages performing different styles of dance.

The event will have two new groups joining this year, Corvallis Argentine Tango and Majestic Aerial Arts, says Jimbo Ivy, theater supervisor.

"I'm especially proud of our folks from MAA (Majestic Aerial Arts) as they pretty much formed in the last three months and are already bringing three performances to an event, as well as giving the audience something they haven't seen in 'Terpsichore' before" with aerial performances, Ivy said.

Returning groups include: Pacific Tap Dance Company, Modern Dance Technique, Willamette Apprentice Ballet, Sherwood Dance Academy, Nikkan, Downtown Dance Adult Repertory Group, D3-Downtown Dance hip-hop crew, East Dream Chinese Dance Group, and Tribal Rising Dance.

The diversity in dance performances is what keeps audiences coming back to the concert year after year, Ivy said.

"We have everything from tapping to ballet to aerial to belly dancing in one evening. It's really a wonder to behold all these varieties on stage together," he said.

Ivy suggests that people interested in attending Terpsichore shouldn't hesitate to purchase tickets.

"Get your tickets now. Don't try to compete with the friends and families of over 100 dancers on the day of" the concert, he said.
