Some call it the “writing world’s version of a marathon": 30 days, 50,000 words and one original novel.
You can join hundreds of thousands of people around the world during the month of November for the challenge known as National Novel Writing Month.
The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., will host events for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) throughout October and November in the library's main meeting room.
Writers ages 13 years and older of all skill levels are welcome at these events.
The Plot Planning Party is set for Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Writers can create an outline or storyboard for their novels, name characters, build worlds, and bounce their ideas off of other local writers.
The Kick Off Party is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The event includes games, refreshments, and a raffle for prizes. This year's event has a superhero theme, and superhero costumes are encouraged.
The NaNoWriMo writing sessions are set for Saturdays, Nov. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. Writers may drop in and write at the NaNoWriMo Writing Sessions. Writers may bring preferred writing tools and work on their novel surrounded by other local writers, and use all of the library's resources. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For information, call 541-766-6793 or see www.nanowrimo.org.
