A cyclist was seriously injured and traffic was backed up for more than a mile in each direction after a crash Thursday morning about a mile east of Philomath.
Corvallis medics transported Adrian Romuald Von Lohmann, 53, of Corvallis to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center after the cyclist was involved in a collision with a car at 7:33 a.m., according to Deputy Eric Glass of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Jason Scott Pittman, 42, of Corvallis, told Glass that he was traveling east on Philomath Boulevard about 40-45 mph when he crested the hill and saw Von Lohmann on his three-wheeled bike in the middle of the road, according to Glass’ report.
Pittman reportedly tried to avoid Von Lohmann by swerving his Subaru Impreza toward the shoulder, but his car struck the front tire of the bike, according to Glass’ report. Von Lohmann went airborne, hit the car and then landed in the road.
Glass didn’t elaborate on the extent of Von Lohmann’s injuries except to say that they were serious.
Philomath Boulevard was closed for about an hour as emergency responders processed and cleared the scene, Glass said.
