The Buy Local First campaign will launch its seventh year this holiday shopping season with a trio of events to support local businesses.

The goal of the event, sponsored by the Community Independent Business Alliance, the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, and HOUR Exchange, is to encourage community members to first think locally about their purchases.

Buy Local First Day kicks off the local focus on Saturday, Dec. 2, with treats, sales, or discounts at 22 participating alliance businesses. The week-long Buy Local First Holiday Contest will culminate with a special Extravaganza Holiday Market on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

The market is being organized by the HOUR Exchange to introduce Corvallis area residents to the HOUR local currency.

For more information, and a list of participating businesses, see www.sustainablecorvallis.org or www.corvallisiba.org.
