Man gets probation for sex abuse of girl, 16

  • 0

A man initially accused with the rape of a teenager in August was sentenced Friday in the Benton County Courthouse to two years’ probation and the requirement that he register as a sex offender.

Chris Stringer, Benton County deputy district attorney, said that a grand jury Oct. 5 returned an indictment that reduced charges against Paul A. Bonnen, 23, to two counts of second-degree sex abuse and furnishing alcohol to a minor. He pleaded guilty to those charges. No hometown was provided for Bonnen.

Bonnen also was sentenced to 30 days in jail, but he had been released from jail Oct. 16 after a plea agreement, with credit for the time he had served.

Bonnen had been extradited from Everett, Wash., in September to face charges that on Aug. 17, he gave a 16-year-old Corvallis girl alcohol and then had sex with her while she was intoxicated.
