The local high school charity pageants wrapped up last month with the Mr. SC pageant, and the total funds raised by the four local high schools with pageants this school year exceeded $223,000.
The 33 students in Corvallis High School’s Mr. and Ms. Spartan pageant raised $137,850 for the Mario Pastega House, the Samaritan Regional Cancer Center, and the Oregon Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Ryan Khalife and his partner Charlie Cole were named the winners of the pageant.
Crescent Valley High School’s pageant raised the next highest figure, with its 23 contestants and organizers raising $61,517 for Jackson Street Youth Shelter, Old Mill Center for Children and Families, and the Children’s Miracle Network. Ashraf Samhan and Manju Bangalore were respectively named Mr. and Ms. CV at the conclusion of the pageant.
Philomath High School’s Mr. PHS pageant raised $15,430 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, breaking the pageant’s previous fundraising record by more than $5,000. Tyler Haslam was named the pageant’s winner.
Santiam Christian School students raised more than $8,500 for Camp Attitude. Jacob Kurian, who with the help of his partner Tailor Kennel raised more than $2,200 of the total, was named Mr. SC at the culmination of the event.
