The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library is hosting a forum on misinformation and propaganda from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the main branch, 645 NW Monroe Ave.
Teacher and librarian Donna Cohen will moderate the discussion, which is intended to teach attendees how to become their own fact-checkers. The workshop will use real world examples of news, political ads, headlines, graphs and charts and cover the effects of word choice in messaging, statistical data and other types of information.
Cohen works on presenting nonpartisan workshops for adults that fill in gaps in civic and political understanding and encourage critical evaluation of information. From 1996 to 2013 she ran D.L. Cohen Information Services, where she worked on information needs assessments, created virtual and physical libraries, provided website usability testing and evaluation and designed website architecture.
