Oregon State University's Jane Lubchenco, a marine biologist and environmental scientist with experience in the worlds of science, academia, public engagement and government, will give a talk on "Balancing Conservation and Sustainable Use: Science and Policy," at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9.
The free talk will be held at Withycombe Hall, Room 109, on the OSU campus.
Lubchenco, an OSU distinguished professor, served as the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and the administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and as part of President Barack Obama’s Science Team from 2009 to 2013.
She is known for her research on biodiversity, rocky seashore ecology, and human impacts on the ocean.
