Buford Ulysses “Bud” Daily, 91, of Lebanon, passed away at home Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Lebanon to Edwin and Amy (Parsons) Daily. He had lived in Lebanon all his life.
Bud joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served in World War II as a carpenter aboard the USS Corvus. While he was aboard the USS Corvus, the ship carried the second atomic bomb that was eventually dropped on Nagasaki, which helped end the war. He didn’t know about the bomb until 2016 when it was declassified.
Bud married Clara Caldwell on February 14, 1947, in Lebanon. She passed away on May 6, 2011.
He later married Nelita Ellis on November 26, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Lebanon.
He had three passions in life — family, golf and gold-mining. He was a member of American Legion Santiam Post #51 in Lebanon. Bud worked at Cascade Plywood for many years, retiring as Quality Control Manager.
Bud is survived by his wife, Nelita Daily of Lebanon; daughter, Sharon Lewis and her husband, Kerry of Spokane, Washington; sons, Gene Daily and his wife, Lisa of Clackamas, and Vern Daily and his wife, Imie of Salem; step-daughters, Valerie Claussen and her husband, Dave of Lebanon and Janna Sanders and her husband, Clyde of Lebanon; stepson, Brian Ellis of Lebanon; sister, Brenda O’Leary of Salem; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Clara Daily; brother, Ted Daily; and sisters, Alice Beemer, Julie Gibbs and Ilene Reed.
A memorial service will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, at American Legion Santiam Post #51 in Lebanon.
