June 5, 1929 — December 27, 2017

David C. Malpass was born June 5, 1929, at home on the farm in Harrisburg, Oregon, to John & Hazel Malpass. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, December 27, 2017, of complications from a short illness.

Dave grew up on a small farm south of Harrisburg on Coburg Road. He was the youngest of six boys. He graduated from Eugene High School in 1947 and started farming with his family.

Dave married Evelyn McCroskey in Portland, September 24, 1950, and they just celebrated their 67th anniversary.

He continued on the family farm until he was drafted in the Army in 1954. He served in Germany as a MP for two years. After discharge, he came back and, with his wife, began farming on their own as Malpass Farms in the Harrisburg area.

Dave was fortunate to work his passion of farming all his life. He was honored as Seedsman of the Year in 2007 from the Oregon Seed Council.

He was also an eight-year member of the Harrisburg School Board, Chairman of the Board of Muddy Creeks Irrigation Project and a member for over 50 years, and a founding member of PERBA.

He helped build Shadow Hills Golf Course, River Ridge Golf Course, and Springfield Country Club. In the '80s, with the help of Dave Wilcox, he built the original U of O football practice field across from Autzen Stadium.

Dave was an Oregon football and basketball season ticket holder for over 45 years and an Oregon State baseball season ticket holder. He is also a season baseball ticket holder for whatever team his son-in-law, Marty Lees, is coaching at the time, which currently is WSU.

Dave was a member of Emerald Bible Fellowship for 36 years.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; their four children, Tom (Karan), Jane DeWall (Mike), Karen Plummer (Randy), and Kristy Lees (Marty); 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at RiverBend Hospital, Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department, Signature Hospice, all Dave’s Doctors, and our loving friends.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 2, 2018, at Emerald Bible Fellowship, 1855 Cal Young Road, Eugene. He will be buried next to his family and the Malpass Farm at West Point Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dove Medical, 487 E. 11th Ave., Eugene, OR 97401 (a pregnancy diagnosis and decision making clinic) or Emerald Bible Fellowship.
