Mark Morrisson has been hired as the first executive director of the Oregon Unmanned Systems Business Enterprise.
The new nonprofit trade group, based in Bend, was formed to promote Oregon as a leader in the emerging industry springing up around the use of unmanned aerial systems or UAS, better known as drones.
Morrisson has an academic background in biology and the use of sensors, while his business background ranges from biotech to venture capital.

“In addition to the aviation component of UAS, there is real intellectual property value in the sensor technology and the data analysis that spins off from it,” said Rick Spinrad, vice president for research at Oregon State University and board president of the new industry group.
“We are fortunate to have in Mark an individual who comes from the sensor world, who has managed many complicated programs and who has helped to launch a number of startup companies.”
