Juneteenth States (copy)

During a ceremony in front of the replica Amistad slave ship, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont speaks on June 10, 2022, in New London, Conn., before signing a copy of legislation that establishes a new legal state holiday on June 19 to be known as Juneteenth Independence Day, one of at least six adopted by states over the past few months. The original Amistad was a 19th-century schooner known for a revolt in 1839, where captives who had been sold to slave traders took control of the ship, which was subsequently towed to New London.

Banks, credit unions: Many will be closed Monday.

Buses: Most public transit will operate Monday.

Government: State government agencies, county governments and city governments will be closed Monday. The sheriff’s offices will continue patrols, as will police departments.

Linn-Benton Community College: The college will be closed Monday.

Liquor stores: Most liquor stores will be open all weekend and Monday. The Sweet Home Liquor Store will close at 3 p.m. Monday.

Editor's note: This article has been edited to correct the date OSU commemorated the holiday.
