With so much discussion in the media about the U.S. health care system, this seems like a good time to point out that there are other options besides insurance-based health care systems like the Affordable Care Act or whatever Trump may replace it with. We can choose a single-payer system instead.
Here are two things that are good about a single payer health care system:
1) Everyone is in. Everyone living in the United States is covered. This appeals to my sense of equity and it is simple. No worries about pre-existing conditions, how old you are, or whether your doctor is “in network."
2) Health care would not be tied to your employment. Americans value their freedom. You would be free to do whatever job you want, start your own business, or move wherever you want without worrying about health insurance. That is the kind of freedom I want.

And we don’t even have to wait for the U.S. Congress to agree on something and take action. We can take action right here in Oregon. Health Care for All Oregon is a single-payer health care system that can be a model for other states and for the whole country. Oregon can lead the way in sensible, fair, health care for all.
